I Am Totally Busy

I’ve been a pretty awful blogger of late.  Much too busy with all my projects and such.  I thought I would put my latest up here since I finally got a new camera with really great resolution.  It doesn’t make up for the lousy photographer I am, so please excuse me for being out of focus!

Here is my just completed project.  It is knitted with 26 gauge gold filled wire and 5 different kinds of Swavorski crystals.  It was knitted on a size 4 bamboo needle across 3 stitches using garter stitch.  I purl when knitting with wire instead of knit as it is much easier to wrap the wire around the needle with purling.

It is actually the second necklace with wire and crystals which I have done in the past 2 weeks.  The other one was in rose, pale green and deep rose.  However, that one the beads were all the same shape.  I think this one is a little too dressy for work so I may make another one with more “casual” beads.

I have completed many projects in the past six months which I will be posting over the next few weeks.  Now that I have the new camera, I’m going to try to get pictures of all these things and document how I made each item.

Until next time…

  1. I love that and would have never guessed it was knit!!! How beautiful, I am dying to see the pics of your other projects!

  2. I don’t think I’ve seen a more beautiful knitted necklace!  I love your color choices!  Would you share your pattern?  Thanks for sharing all the pictures!  You are very talented!

  3. I think this is truely quite beautiful.  I also think the colors were great.  I just started knitting with wire and beads.  I would be interested in the pattern if you were willing to share.  You are very talented keep sharing with us the pictures as you post them.  I never thought about purling instead of knitting the stitches, so thanks for that comment.

I have only made a bracelet which I wasn’t to please with the side so I will try doing it your way with the purling.Did you any books you used that helped you?

    Thanks again,

  4. The pattern is fairly simple:
On 26 gauge (half soft) gold filled wire, String (1 4mm aqua drop, 1 4mm clear bicone, 1 4mm aqua bicone ) 19x
This gets you just short of half way. At this point switch to larger drops – (
    1 8mm drop or other medium flat drop, 1 4mm clear bicone, 1 4mm aqua bicone, 1 4mm aqua drop, 1 4mm clear bicone, 1 4mm aqua bicone) 2x
    (1 8mm drop or other medium flat drop, 1 4mm clear bicone, 1 4mm aqua bicone) 1x
    1 8mm drop or other medium flat drop, 1 4mm clear bicone, 1 4mm aqua bicone, 1 4mm aqua drop, 1 4mm clear bicone, 1 4mm aqua bicone) 2x
    (1 4mm aqua drop, 1 4mm clear bicone, 1 4mm aqua bicone ) 19x

Cast on 3 stitches, purl for about 5 rows plain (this will be where you will attach the clasp)
next row, purl one stitch bring up a bead (4mm aqua bicone) then purl the next stitches, bring up a bead, purl the last stitch.
As you turn, bring up the drop, purl all 3 stitches
Repeat until all beads are gone.

    Purl 5 rows.

Attach to a clasp. You can use a cuff or cone on the ends to create an attractive end.

  5. The book I would recommend for wire knitting is: Knitting with Wire by Nancie Wiseman.
The designs in it are not that great, but the techniques are all laid out for you. She also has a crochet with wire book. I have some others but they assume some experience with wire.
